Dr. Maffi offers his Scottsdale cosmetic surgery patients a range of non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures, including facial injection treatments. Aesthetic injections have become very popular among patients who are seeking to look younger without having surgery.

Facial injections come in different formulas and are used at specific dosages to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, redefine natural features, restore facial volume and plump the lips. In many cases, the results can be very dramatic, yet natural-looking, and can be maintained with repeat treatments.

Sculptra™ Aesthetic

Sculptra is an FDA-approved facial filler specifically designed to fill in facial hollowness by replacing lost collagen. Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material that has been used safely for decades. Sculptra can be injected to fill in any area of the face, including hollow cheeks, deep facial wrinkles and folds.

Sculptra is administered in multiple injections at three to six week intervals, and the results can last up to two years. Each treatment session lasts about an hour, and patients are able to resume their daily activities right away.

BOTOX© Cosmetic

Botox is perhaps the most well-known injectable on the market and is used to ameliorate a range of age-related facial irregularities. It smoothes frown lines on the forehead and around the eyes, it elevates the tip of the nose and the corners of the mouth, and it improves the neck line and raises the eyebrows. Botox is also frequently used for non-cosmetic purposes, including reducing excessive sweating, decreasing muscle spasms and treating certain types of migraines. Since Botox is Botulinum Toxin Type A, it is important to receive Botox injections from a board certified plastic surgeon or other medical professionals with specialized training.

Botox is administered at Dr. Maffi’s practice, and treatment takes about 15 minutes. The results last for approximately three months.

Dysport™

Similar to Botox, Dysport is a Botulinum Toxin Type A-based facial injectable that temporarily improves facial wrinkles and folds. Dysport requires special dosing and often provides longer-lasting results. According to some studies, Dysport results can take effect within two to three days after injection, and usually result in a more natural look.

Just like all facial injectables, Dysport is administered in an office setting, with or without topical anesthesia. Treatment time is about 15 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Restylane© and Perlane©

Restylane and Perlane are facial fillers composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin. When injected, hyaluronic acid restores facial volume, thereby filling in unsightly wrinkles, lines and folds.

When administered by a skilled plastic surgeon or a registered nurse specializing in aesthetic injections, Restylane and Perlane rejuvenate the overall appearance of the face for a more beautiful, younger-looking you. The results are usually visible right away and last several months. Restylane or Perlane is administered at Dr. Maffi’s practice under topical anesthesia. The treatment is minimally invasive and patients are free to resume their daily activities right away.

Juvederm

Juvederm is a gel-based facial filler composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that replenishes volume and hydration. Juvederm is injected to fill in facial wrinkles and folds, like "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds – the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

Juvederm comes in two different formulas: Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. Each formula provides a more intense treatment to eliminate age-related skin irregularities ranging from mild to severe. Juvederm treatments require no downtime.

Radiesse©

Radiesse is an excellent wrinkle filler that replenishes lost facial volume and smoothes wrinkles and lines by restoring some of the lost collagen. In fact, the unique formula in Radiesse stimulates the body to produce collagen, which diminishes with age. The new collagen induces volume restoration and creates a more youthful-looking facial appearance. Radiesse results may last up to six months or longer.

In general, Radiesse treatment takes about 30 minutes, depending on the size and number of facial areas treated.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins. Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution directly into the vein. The sclerotherapy solution causes the vein to scar and collapse, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades.

In most cases of sclerotherapy, the solution is injected through a very fine needle directly into the vein. Patients may experience mild discomfort and cramping for one to two minutes, especially when larger veins are injected. The number of veins injected in one session varies, and depends on the size and location of the veins, as well as the general medical condition of the patient. The procedure itself takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes.

After sclerotherapy, treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks, although occasionally it may take up to a month to see the full results. In some instances, several sclerotherapy treatments may be needed.
